between the American Football Conference
champion New England Patriots and National Football Conference champion Seattle
Seahawks.
The game is at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The game was
the February 1, 2015. The Patriots defeated the Seahawks 28–24.
After the teams were tied 14–14 at halftime, the
Seahawks ended the third quarter leading 24–14. However, the Patriots rallied
to take a 28–24 lead with roughly two minutes left in the game. Seattle
responded by driving the ball to the New England 1-yard line. With 26 seconds
remaining in the game, they elected to pass the ball, but Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler made a
game-saving interception on Russell
Wilson's throw.
The broadcast of Super Bowl XLIX on NBC broke the record for the most-watched program in American television
history, previously set during the previous year's
Super Bowl. The
game was seen by an average of 114.4 million viewers, with it peaking to 118.5
million during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show featuring Katy
Perry.
